Explore the field of information security and assurance with this valuable resource that focuses on both the managerial and technical aspects of the discipline. Principles of Information Security, Third Edition builds on internationally recognized standards and bodies of knowledge to provide the knowledge and skills that information systems students need for their future roles as business decision-makers. Coverage includes key knowledge areas of the CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), as well as risk management, cryptography, physical security, and more. Customer Rating: Summary: Good introductory book Comment: This is a good introduction to information security for the novice and doesn't go in to too much depth to overwhelm the reader.
Customer Rating: Summary: Alright book Comment: Lots of information still valid but book is a bit out dated and even refers to a lot of material for download that is not even available no more.
Customer Rating: Summary: Eh...I suppose it's ok if you have to... Comment: It was a required text for my Info Security Systems class. I dont have too much of an opinion on it.
Pretty easy to read
Keeps your attention well enough, depending your interest in the subject.
Price is always better on amazon than what you'll find on campus
You cant really ask for more.
P.S. I only gave it 4 stars because it's a required reading (=less time playing call of duty 4 and Halo 3) and I hate spending so much money on books. lol
Customer Rating: Summary: Informative but unorganized Comment: This book provides a great introduction into computer security in general. As well as discussing the important managerial topics for a career in information security, it provides a basic but comprehensive overview of information security. My only problem with this book is that within chapters it sometimes presents information in a convoluted manner.
Customer Rating: Summary: Very informative Comment: I graduated from UAB in the fall of 2004. While attending school I was blessed with the opportunity work as an InfoSec Professional while utilizing Business Intelligence. In the spring semester of 2005 UAB implemented an information security course, i was given the opportunity to audit the course. We used this book in the course, at first i thought that it was over kill and boring, but at the end of the semester i realize that all the information is necessary for students to grasp the concepts of information security. One must remember that information security is still in its infancy as a profession, but it rapidly expanding. This book is great if one need an introduction to the information security profession. I currently have this book in my library, where i still use it as a reference when writing information security related papers for ACM.
